Card to Share

Thanks again to everyone for the warm birthday wishes.  Yesterday my wonderful hubby chauffeured me around in a nearby town where I shopped at a scrapbook store (found some 2009 "Somerset Studio" magazines for 1/2 price), a cool artist's market (found a tile and beaded pendant) and JoAnn's (lots of clearance stamps).  All great finds and maybe a few to be shared as blog candy and/or challenge prizes in the future!
I also had a delicious Mexican dinner (and margaritas) with some old friends.  And I got to draw the lucky winner of the blog candy.  A great day all around!
Today I am heading into the studio to attend to some much needed clean up.  Hopefully there will be time to work up a few cards using the techniques I learned last weekend at Archiver's.  In the meantime, here is another one of those cards made during the "Painted Petals" class.

Creative Weekend--Day 3

We spent the last day of our Creative Weekend taking a card class at Archiver's.  I love to shop at Archiver's but have never taken any kind of papercrafting class so I wasn't sure what to expect.  Our four places were set up with everything we needed to make cards in the "Painted Petals" class.  I have to say, it was a great time!  I learned some new techniques using supplies I already have and came away with four unique cards.
This is one of the four cards we made.  Isn't it beautiful?  I'm going to play around with the technique and create my own version to share with you soon.  In the meantime, scroll down to the next post to get your free "Movie Theme" SVG file....and don't forget!  Only two more days for Followers to enter to win the digital camera.  Details are HERE.

Creative Weekend--Day 2

More to share of my amazing creative weekend with my sisters and BFF.  I found a very unique shop while surfing on the web and since it was just down the road from our hotel, we had to visit.  LEON & LULU is "an eclectic mix of upscale furniture, unforgettable gifts, and accessories in an environment unlike any other. Located in the historic Ambassador Roller Rink, offering 15,000 square feet of fabulous shopping."  And it was indeed fabulous.  From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly, offered refreshments and given outstanding customer service.
Here's a sampling of what we brought home.  Jen picked up one of these very unique fish shaped "GurglePots".  It actually gurgles as you pour out your beverage.
Vic picked up a beautiful beaded ring.
Vic also had to try on one of their "paper bag hats".
Yup, it was made from a paper bag!  Very unique.
I added to my summer "bird" decor with a few lovely pieces.  As we were leaving we were asked if we had gotten our "Random Act of Kindness" gifts.  Can you believe a cart was rolled over to us and we could choose from a selection of wonderful things?!  Here's what I picked out...a handmade pin.  So many creative items and ideas!  We definately enjoyed our visit to Leon & Lulu.
Check the post below for your RAK gift...another free movie-themed SVG file.

Creative Celebration: It's Great to Get Gifts!

While I can't say that I'm too thrilled about turning 50 on Saturday, there is one up side to the whole birthday thing:  GIFTS!  And because I spent the weekend with my creative sisters and BFF, I got some awesome crafty and handmade things that I wanted to share with you.  And if you scroll down to the next post, I'm giving YOU a gift too---a Free SVG File!
This awesome book is from BFF Sue and has lots of great ideas for making vintage looking art.  I LOVE it!  She said she found it at Hobby Lobby.  Sue loves everything vintage and is a decorating genius.  She can scrapbook like nobody's business too!
Sue is also a fantastic estate and thrift shopper so she gave each of us some of her finds...a packet of vintage sheet music to use in our creative endeavors.  Can you see what the title of the top piece is?  "The Bull-Dog On the Bank".  And with it is a bulldog bank I bought for myself this weekend at Pottery Barn.  Coincidence?  I think not!
Sue made me this beautiful yarn scarf.  I had been hearing about these so I was excited to get one and in my favorite colors too!
This sweet little wreath is made out of square bits of wool sweaters.  Another unique gift from Sue.  (I also got Christmas gifts from her because I haven't seen her since October)
I got lots of new stamps from Sue and my sister Vic.  Can't wait to use them!
Sue also gifted me with a Yankee Candle, wine, and a bag of joke gifts.  One of the bags she used for all the gifts was this reusable one from JoAnn's.
My sister Vic is an extremely talented papercrafter and artist.  She made me a beautiful multi-media "Spring" Canvas.  She wants to put it on her own future blog so I can't share it yet.  Hopefully soon because it is stunning!  She also made lovely little wooden tags for each of us.  So charming!
My sister Jen gave me this beautiful set of "New Mittens From Old Sweaters".  So appropriate since I drove through a huge snowstorm on my way home from our weekend!
I also got some neat vintage-y charms from Jen.  While she didn't make these she is an awesome jewelry artist who has sold her work in museum shops and on Etsy.
Jen also found something "bulldog" related to give me...these cool shorts from Old Navy!

Creative Celebration week continues until Saturday.  Make sure to scroll down to the next post to pick up your free SVG file.  And if you're a Follower click HERE to register to win the Creative Celebration Blog Candy--a Digital Camera!

Creative Weekend--Day 1

I'm so excited to share my creative weekend with all of you!
On Friday I loaded up my car and headed south to the big city.  Picked up my sister Jen and then met my other sister Vic and BFF Sue in Troy (a suburb of Detroit) for our first creative stop: MY CRAFT ROOM .  This is an awesome store that has a little bit of everything.  I got some great Graphic 45 Steampunk papers as well as the Tim Holtz Seasonal Paper Stack I'd been looking for.  I was thrilled to find the Claudine Hellmuth Studio Multi-Medium too.  The ladies working there were so pleasant and helpful.  Makes me sad that there are so few locally owned craft/art stores around any more.

Next stop was THE PAPER HOLLOW.  Lots of stickers and cardmaking supplies.  Cheryl was kind enough to draw us a map to other scrapbook stores in the area and we hit the road.  Along the way we made detours into a few thrift stores.  Unfortunately luck wasn't on my side and I didn't find a thing.
The girls went paper crazy at SCRAPBOOK TREE & STAMP GARDEN.   I have never seen so much paper!  Check out the photo of just ONE wall.  (Notice some heads peeking out?)
Above the paper racks were layout ideas galore.  I found some unique papers for my stash and had a ball sorting through their 25 cent bin and sale section.

Vic and Jen taking a moment from their shopping to smile for the camera.
Sue is working on filling her basket!

Next on our agenda was massages!  We headed over to the LaVida Spa and were pampered for the next hour.  I would post some pictures of how relaxed we looked afterward but we think that a big mistake was made.  Instead of the "hot" stones in the massages, we think they secretly replaced them with "ugly" stones!  If I were to post those photos I'd be shot!  A Dollar Store was next to the spa and we picked up crepe paper rolls so that Sue could show us how to make these cute and easy crepe paper rosettes.  Details in the post below!

Technique--Crepe Paper Rosettes

My lovely and talented BFF Sue showed us how easy these were to make after we picked up rolls of crepe paper (2 for a buck) at the dollar store.  She used the sewing kit from the hotel we were staying at and just sat down on the floor and whipped them right up.  Here's how to make them:
1.  Cut a 12" strip of crepe paper.  Fold so you have two "layers" (as shown on rosette to the right in picture above) with the bottom layer longer than the top layer.
2.  Using a needle and thread, baste along the top edge the entire length of crepe paper.
3.  Gently pull the thread and gather the top edge into a rosette.
4.  Tie the ends of the thread together to hold.
The rosette on the top picture's left (and being sewn above) was done using a folded piece of crepe paper and an unfolded piece, both stitched together.  Finish the rosettes with decorated paper or button centers.  Can you imagine how many of these you can get from just one roll of crepe paper?!

Creative Celebration Week!

Hi Creative Friends!
Sorry the details on the "Creative Celebration Digital Camera Give Away" took so long to post today.  A trip that would normally take me 3.5 hours took over 6 hours due to a big snow storm that is blowing through Michigan.  But thank the Lord I made it home safe and sound!

This is "Creative Celebration" week and I have lots of things to share!  I spent the past three days with my sisters and BFF (each a talented artist) downstate where we got creatively recharged.  I'll be posting all the details and photos (that I'm allowed to share!) of our adventures this week.  And as this is Academy Awards Sunday, I'll have four free "movie theme" SVGs for you.  Watch for them plus other creative surprises.  This special week will wrap up Saturday with the drawing for the digital camera.  Hope you all enjoy celebrating with me!

SVG File: Flip Flops

FINAL DAY OF OUR SPRING BREAK WEEK!
Hope you've enjoyed seeing my travel scrapbook pages and collecting the SVG files I created just for you.  I myself won't be traveling anytime soon as I have two senior bulldogs that need a lot of care right now.  But that's okay...I've got lots of scrapbook pages of memories, plus I get to live in my former vacation home!  So really, every day is great "Up In Northern Michigan"!
This layout is the first scrapbook page I created with my own Cricut and the Sure Cuts A Lot program.  A wonderful lady, Yolie, created the Mexican banners for me.  Check out her blog HERE.  I found the font online to create the heading.  I think the colors really set the page off.
So what goes with every outfit when you're on vacation?  Flip Flops!  In the pair I created shown below, I have it in four layers.  So you can cut either the right or left shoe or the pair.
Sorry, this file is no longer available for free.  You may purchase it HERE.
Don't forget to check back tomorrow for details on how you can win the Grand Opening Blog Candy---a Vivitar Digital Camera!

SVG File: Effiel Tower

DAY FIVE OF SPRING BREAK WEEK!
This layout takes us back to Michigan...to the eastern or "Sunrise" side of the state.  We had a great family weekend in Tawas, right on Lake Huron.
Now you might be wondering what does the Effiel Tower have to do with Tawas?  Ummm...nothing.  Except that Tawas has a lighthouse (a tall structure) and the Effiel tower is a tall structure.  Well, that and since I haven't been to Paris I needed a layout to go with the SVG file I created below.

You can get the Free SVG file HERE.
