I've agreed to continue on with the Lone Wolf Designs Design Team until June, so I'm back again to share a fun and easy key chain project with you. These are so fun and easy to make using the Piddix Collage Sheet- 1 inch Squares-Flora & Fauna and Advantus-Tim Holtz-Ideaology-Fragments-Charms.
There are 21 squares of art on this collage sheet...so you can make lots of projects! This Piddix sheet is only one of the many collage sheets available from LWD. There are various shapes, sizes and themes for you to choose from and these sheets are constructed using quality paper and ink. The squares were a real pleasure to work with!
So lets get started with the key chain project!
First choose a Tim Holtz Fragment to work with. For this tutorial, I choose a long thin piece (1.25" x 2"). I found a piece of scrap paper I liked for my background and laid the fragment over it to be sure it would fit how I wanted it to. Next I drew a pencil line around the fragment to help me layout the placement of the collage square.
I choose this cute little bird as the focal point and used a sentiment from Cosmo Cricket "Tiny Text" to go along with it. I used Glossy Accents to glue the elements to the background paper and let them dry.
Next I put an even coat of Glossy Accents on the back side of the fragment and pressed it to the paper making sure that I stayed inside of my pencil lines. I turned the fragment over and pressed out any bubbles or extra GA so that the back was smooth. I also used a Q-tip to wipe off any GA that pressed out onto the edges. Then I set it aside so that the GA could dry completely.
Once everything was completely dry, I used a craft knife to trim away the paper around the edges. Get as close as you can, angling the knife blade for a mitered cut. Then, take a sanding stick and sand the edges on the back of the paper so that you get a nice smooth edge. If there is any GA on the sides of the fragment, you can lightly sand that away as well. Use a pick tool to clean out the hole if necessary.
If the paper you used has a decorative back, you can leave it as is. If not, cut another piece of paper for the back and apply it the same way as you did the front piece.
To finish, I put a little GA on my finger and ran it around the edge of the paper. Then I applied a thin coat to the entire back side, sealing it completely.
After everything is dry, add a chain and key ring, charms, beads or what ever you'd like to decorate the piece.
Here's a peek at a few other pieces I made with the Piddix Collage Sheet:
Glass tile pendant
Metal pendant
Domino necklace
Stop back later this week for details on the techniques for these three pieces.
