Remembering

There isn't a September 11th that passes
that I don't remember the lives lost in this tragedy.
Since today is the 10th anniversary of that event,
I thought I'd share some personal thoughts.
On that day, even though I was far from NYC (in Michigan, just south of Detroit), my life changed forever, just as all of yours did.  Unsure of what was happening or what was coming next, I gathered with a group of coworkers in our office and we prayed for the victims and our country.  I left the office to gas up my vehicle in case I would need to evacuate the city.  We had a second home "up in Northern Michigan" and should need be, we could head there.  That day I became a talk radio junky...wanting to get all the news I could.  For days afterwards, I laid on the couch crying as I watched the heartbreaking news coverage on TV.  I can't ever remember being in such a depression as I was in those following days.  The whole country was in mourning and depression.  But I also have a deep faith in God and believe that through it all, He was in charge.  I'm on a bible reading program and the day after
9-11, Psalm 27 was the reading, which let me know that things would be okay.
Here is a portion of that Psalm:
The Lord is  my light and my salvation--whom should I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life--of whom should I be afraid?
When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident...
For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling....

In 2006, my sisters and I took a trip to NYC and we visited Ground Zero.
I scrapped a few pages on that visit and am sharing them here

I can't describe how it felt to see that huge hole in the ground...still a gaping wound.
I hope that I can go back to see the new Memorial someday.

That day is burned into the psyche of everyone who lived it and who was old enough to remember it. I was at work when the news first broke...one plane, then another, then the Pentagon, then the plane in PA...it was surely Armaggedon. From then on we were all scrambling to get more information. Our boss gathered our department together and we stood in a big circle. It's the only time I'd ever seen him close tears. I can't believe it's been 10 years. I will never forget the utter confusion, the fear, the sadness...how innocent we all were before the horrible events of that day and how drastically our lives have changed.

NEVER FORGET!

Such a lovely memorial post. It was a tragic day. My brother and his girlfriend went to the site this year on their holiday to America. I remember the day well, the shock of it all. I was teaching that day and we did a special prayer lesson on it.
